A Prayer For Musicians

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the many blessings that You have bestowed upon me, especially the affection for music and for the abundant joy that it has brought me throughout all the years of my life.

May this musical offering be pleasing to You and may it make Your heart glad, for it is with tender love and simple adoration that I now give back to You that which You have so graciously given to me to begin with.

May I never take this blessing nor any of Your blessings for granted or in any way think that I had anything to do with the possession of them, for it is only by Your good pleasure that I have any talent or ability to realize the desires of my heart at all.

I acknowledge that I am simply the vessel through which You have allowed these melodies to flow and it is my utmost desire to use them now in praise, worship, and thanksgiving to You.

May those who would hear this music be blessed.

May these notes strike a chord that resonates down into the deepest parts of their souls.

May the Holy Spirit orchestrate, manifest, and cultivate in them a burning desire to know You if they don’t already, and if they do, to know You better.

I humbly ask that You would coordinate my spirit, soul, and body so as to be in perfect harmony; that You would guide my hands to faithfully execute and deliver this composition of gratitude and appreciation, and that through them You would be honored and glorified.

In assurance of faith, unwavering, in accordance with Your will and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask these things in and through Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Humble Prayer For Oneself

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please forgive me for unconfessed sins of omission, transgressions of commission, and the iniquity in my own heart. I confess that I have sinned in all of these areas. Please help me to want to truly repent of those specific transgressions that I willfully and without excuse give in to time and time again and keep me strong in those that You have given me victory over.

Please forgive me for all of the times when I have grieved, quenched, and tempted the Holy Spirit. I ask now that Your Spirit would empty me and refill me; that He would lead me and teach me. I thank You for the Holy Spirit’s continuing work of sanctification and that because of it I am moving ever closer to becoming the new man that You are fashioning me to be.

I pray that today would be the first day of the rest of my life. I pray that I would recognize need and that I would always know that although I can’t do everything I can still do something. I pray that during times of trial, tribulation, and temptation that I would choose to rely on Your promises that You will never leave me nor forsake me, You will not allow me to be tempted above that which I am able to bear, and that if I endure I will receive the crown of life. Please give me the desire to resist, the patience to withstand, the constancy to persevere, and the faith to believe. Fortify me with heavenly courage in order that I may be a steadfast and reticent sufferer.

Please continue to give me Your wisdom, Your understanding, Your instruction, and Your knowledge so that I may continue to grow in fear, faith, trust, obedience, and humility. And may Your Spirit rest upon me, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

May Your will for my life be wholly fulfilled. May I practice Your presence. To love You with all my heart, soul, mind, strength, and to love my neighbor as myself are what I ask that You would cause to be my greatest desires. Please show me where You would have me serve You today. Use my life for Your glory and when my time on this earth is through and I stand before Your throne to give an account may I be deemed by You to have been a good and faithful servant.
Come Lord Jesus.

In assurance of faith, unwavering, in accordance with Your will and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask these things in and through Jesus’ name, Amen.

An Interecessory Prayer For People

Dear Heavenly Father,

I lift up travelers to You.

I pray for peace for Jerusalem and safety for Israel. I pray that between one and all of Her children would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus today. I pray for Her enemies, my enemies, and the enemies of all Jews and Christians.

I pray for leaders and for those in positions of power, influence, control, and authority in this world.

I pray for all those who are serving or who have served in the armed forces of the United States.

I pray for the unborn, the newborn, and for those who will lose their earthly lives today.

I pray for pastors, teachers, ministers, missionaries; for those doing Your work here on the earth; for Your Church and for all the programs It’s involved with to lead souls to Jesus. I pray for those who are being persecuted and martyred for proclaiming and maintaining their faith in You.

I pray for my family, my friends, and my acquaintances.

I pray for those whose birthday is today.

I pray for those who are being directly affected by world news, currents events, and “earthquakes in diverse places”.

I pray for unsaved members in my family, and among my friends and acquaintances.

I lift these petitions to You. I pray for these people. I pray for their families, their friends, and their acquaintances. Please forgive them of their sins. I pray that they would know You, that they would come to know You if they don’t already, that they would be known by You, and that they would grow in the knowledge of You. I pray that they would sense that they have a need and that they would then come to realize that that need can only be fulfilled by You. I thank You that You meet us right where we are and I pray that You would bring people, events, and circumstances into their lives that would cause them to turn to You, to seek You, to cry out to You; that the Holy Spirit would come alongside them and convict them; that they would confess and repent of their sins, ask You for mercy and forgiveness, believe and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, and receive and accept Your gift of eternal life. I pray that You would give to them the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You, the eyes of their understanding being enlightened.

Come Lord Jesus.

In assurance of faith, unwavering, in accordance with Your will and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask these things in and through Jesus’ name, Amen.

Conflict Resolution

Across the rows, across the aisles
I look at you, you look at me
Unspoken, yet I can’t deny
It’s there, but should not be
Oh what a silly man I am
To think that I could sing
An aubade to a time long past
And resurrect the spring
We want most what we can’t have
And we may never get
It’s been that way since Adam strayed
And took the bite of death
Audacious heart in me you live
And to me shrewdly say,
"You only come this way but once,
So catch and seize the day!”
My spirit groans, my conscience knows
Full well my heart does lie
But then that heart in rebel clothes
Commands my spirit: “Die!”
Now in our flesh dwells no good thing
The Bible does impart
And Wisdom also teaches us
The fool trusts in his heart
To be enticed is not to sin
For often we are tried
But what one does when trial comes
Reveals who reigns inside
Yet there is help to cure the plight
It does not come from man
No human strength can win the fight
Against the evil plan
The One Who is omnipotent
The One Who died in shame
I rest my case on what He did
And call His mighty name
In Christ and Christ alone I trust
To gain the victory
Against my unrelenting foe
The trifold enemy

Just You and I In the Sky

I want to go to Idaho
I bet you never knew
And Wyoming… and Hawaii…
Oh, and North Dakota too!!
I’ve been to all the other ones
For once there was a time
When I would tease the pull of Earth
And upwards I would climb
I used to fly those great big jets
I dreamed of as a kid
And many others just like you
Also wish they did
Well, wish no more, now close your eyes
You’re in for something neat
We’re going on an airplane ride
From up in the pilot’s seat!!
Now if you don’t mind, we’ll skip some things
Like, “How does the airplane turn on?”
And we’ll get right up to altitude
On our cross-country marathon!!
Okay, you can look now, we’re heading due west
Cruising high overtop of the “Plains”
And we’re only two hours from the Great Salt Lake
Oh don’t worry, plenty of daylight remains
Way out there, see the Rockies? Though they look pretty small
As we near they’ll ascend to great heights
And when we pass overhead we’ll see mountains of green
Topped with snows of the purest of whites
Across the western states we soar
Vast palettes of different browns
Where? Show me… oh, those way down there?
They’re not ants, those are small little towns
Why do the lakes and rivers shine like that?
You’re right, they do look like they’re on fire
It’s the reflection of the setting sun
Nature’s herald for sky’s evening attire
Oh my, there’s the sunset, isn’t it marvelous??
From up here, it’s a sight to behold
The pinks, the blues, all those orange hues!!
No silly, the sun’s not made out of gold
Onward!! Forward!! With purpose, we fly
The twilit West Coast looms ahead
Now let’s check… good, since we’ve plenty of fuel
We won’t stop, we’ll keep going instead
There now, we’ve reached the Pacific
And the sun finally bid us goodnight
So it’s time to turn this grand airplane around
And head back on the long eastbound flight
We’re going to fly on a northerly route
I hope later on you’ll see why
But for now, let’s simply gaze at stars
And marvel at the sky
There’s Orion!! And the Pleiades!!
Cassiopeia is way over there!!
And there’s Ursa Major… oh, I thought you knew
That’s Latin for “Great She-Bear”
Now look down from her tail, tell me, what do you see?
Indeed, the Big Dipper, in all of its glory
But do you know how to find the obscure Little one?
That’s okay, another time, another story
There!! Look to the left and look real hard
It’s one of the rarest of sights
No, that’s not curtains blowing in the sky
They’re called the “Northern Lights”
That’s why I wanted to fly on a northerly route
You see them best from there
And believe me, it’s not very often that you do
But tonight God has answered my prayer
That faint yellow line growing bright in the east?
That’s the dawning of a new day
Which reminds me, now is the perfect time
To take a moment and pray
To thank God for all of the beauty
He has made for us to view
But for me do you know what the best gift was?
It was that I got to see it with you!
Well, I hate to say it but the time has come
Our journey must now end
You say you want to do it again?
Any time, my friend…

Did You Ever Have a Dream

Did you ever have a dream…
And someone who you least expected to see was in it…
And in the dream you fell in love with them…
And when you woke up you realized it was only a dream…
But it still hurt really bad!?

No, that never happened to me either…

An Interecessory Prayer For One's Country

Dear Heavenly Father,

I pray for my country. Please forgive Us for the sins that We have committed and that We continue to commit. I ask that before You judge Us that You would cause a man or a woman to be raised up who would stand in the gap and lead a revival that would spread around the world and that countless multitudes would be brought out of the valley of decision and into Your eternal Kingdom.

Come Lord Jesus.

In assurance of faith, unwavering, in accordance with Your will and by the power of the Holy Spirit, I ask these things in and through Jesus’ name, Amen.

Don'T Ever Do This

Today I hugged my tarantula I can’t believe I did
I don’t know what came over me I must have flipped my lid!
I thought that she would merely run that thought soon I forsook
When after I had set her down a combat stance she took
Her carapace shot vertical, her pedicel stretched long
Staunch pedipalps in earnest zeal drummed out her battle song
Opisthosoma thrust up high, hairs bristled on its end
Chelicerae with puckered fangs intended to offend
Her beady eyes locked onto me, her fovea relaxed
Her legs in octal synchrony sprang open to the max
Determined to aspire, her spinnerets now spun
A dainty strand of robust silk that glistened in the sun
Before I knew what happened she wrapped it ‘round my head
And then with otherworldly strength, she pulled that steely thread
I struggled to resist her she quickly reeled me in
A contest even Hercules could not have hoped to win
So there we were, now face to face I bid myself adieu
I shut my eyes and said a prayer resolved that I was through
I thought for sure that she would bite or otherwise attack
But neither of those did she do, instead, she hugged me back!

Concealed In Love

If I did I wouldn't tell you,
But if I didn't I would

And if I did I couldn't tell you,
But if I didn't I could

It Is Finished

It is finished
All the work was done on the cross at Calvary
It is finished, it is finished
Once for all humanity
Changed the course of history
When Jesus was high and lifted up
The slaves were then set free
Free to choose eternal destinies
The greatest gift of love the world would see
Blessed Savior, to Thee now come
My race, it is finished, the labor done
Seeking the rest only You can give
Rest for my soul to forever live
Dwelling in Heaven eternally, in You I rest

It is finished
Offered once to die, and for all eternity
It is finished, it is finished
From the streets of Nazareth
To the throne of holiness
When Jesus was high and lifted up
His purpose was complete
His life on earth fulfilled the prophecies
Salvation free for those who will believe
I kneel before Thee, head bowed in shame
The Book is opened, You call my name
Lifting my eyes I behold Your hands
Nail-scarred, held open, they help me stand
Rising forgiven, eternally, in You I rest

It is finished
Cried the Son of God, and the veil was rent in two
It is finished, it is finished
Broken fellowship restored
Mediated path no more
Jesus, You’re high and lifted up
May all the world now see
Jesus high and lifted up in me
My life a testimony to the King

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
