My Second Poem On Poetrysoup

across the black soil clay pan i wander and wonder
my old peoples homelands for millennia
shared now among our not just our families of old, but with newer arrivals
its not so much angst but a simmering disappointment
that our existence continues to be questioned

for where in history shall our learned friends sit when even they cannot acknowledge the truth
fear not i tell folk, for we a not foe, welcome we shall should you need to be
take all and give not they tell us for good, on knees we have worked
equality told but no equity served

humor and hope our resilience is strong as always we have and shall carry on
open arms still extended
offering naysayers in, we carry on the wishes of our old peoples hearts
learn and transfer
teach and acquire, knowledge and compassion our essence to inspire

Gaba Gii (good heart, Gamilaroi)

Independent Thinking
_______________________
a jingle janglein my pocket one day i did hear
not much too do a thing with
left me in my ponder about this problem i did wonder
Upon my life i have thought
not much more than i could think
but reconciling life in my deepest thought
i could not find me
im not so old i know too much
and not so young i know not such
but im here right now and wonder upon life
and how or what feels right
influences come from so many ways
so many ways across my days
i followed rightly
i followed wrongly
but followed me so very rarely
Rarely have i have given champion to myself
so very rarely have i believed in me
but as this gentle breeze blows across my brow
do i now want to be
For all my errors i love them so
and todays the day i let them go
Let them build the man i see the man i crave to be
Me
My strength i pull from what has made me weak
and against those weakness i shall find my peak
No judge can be more cruel than i
and in my actions my life will thrieve
I am here because of me
and its me who i want to be
stronger in myself, stonger in my strength
i rebuild my essence
I am no longer frieghtened of me
and find pride in my strength
for its something ive always had
but left behind for something else
My days now help me grow, it lets me be
i can hear the music, that i have been deafened to
my reflection lets me see and determines i will be
so many small things now mean so much more
one day at a time i am now a believer in me
each moment i grab, grabs each moment i need
and i need like all people i need
and like all people i will be
my sleep is now content with each day i wake
and with each day i wake so too my love for me
i will be the best me for me
and with me, so shall the lives i touch be
nothing or no one can be me as much as i will be
i am now my own man
original and strong
my essence is free

On Country

Across Dhariwaa i, with my brothers have walked
as the teachings professed come to life, we experience
no more the exclusion from our cultural being are the leanings discarded
its time to be our own critical friends, to be cultural allies and advocates for our families
the time for dance, song and ceremony is dawning
time for learning on Dharriwaa is our obligation
our youth seek us, our Elders seek us, so we must now seek our roles in the learning, our roles on country to be placed, accepted, fostered and passed on
the experience of life in our cultural selves is inspiring
living two worlds as worlds is our priority
humbleness and honesty our way, encumbers us to extend to others
Dharriwaa will provide, and we we accept with pride and humility

Sad Morning Wednesday

i loved once in my life, once not enough
its was an extravagant feeling
not so unlike the joy of the rain on drought soaked country

i loved once in my life, life has given me so much
it filled my time with action and consequence
i so loved how it did with no regret

i loved once in my life, it allows my sorrow
how do i bury thee unfinished
i call for you on every breath
i know you're there

i loved once in my life, i was not so young
i follow my old peoples path along the rivers edge
never have i searched, long though i have found

i loved once in my life, age has no concept of feeling
let me be in my love

Gunni-Ma

And he said whilst Euragai provided the light over autumns mist,
this is Gunni-ma, our mother, and she is to be loved,
she will give our women strength and our men their place,
our children shall grow and learn from her and she will be our keeper,
love her, care for her, for she is your Gii (heart)....
