Miss Bahamian Culture

Miss Bahamian Culture
a woman who pledges loyalty
to put Bahama land from the time
she was conceived out of the womb

Miss Bahamian Culture
a woman who sheds the blood
of gold, black and aquamarine
straight from her veins
as she wakes up each morning
to the pulsing beat of Goombay drums
and cowbell singing in her ears

Miss Bahamian Culture
a woman who is a true cultural icon
always clothed in either Androsia Print
a costume of cardboard and crepe paper
or gold, black and aquamarine attire
from head to toe

Miss Bahamian Culture
a woman who is a pure nationalist
who always remember where her navel string was buried
in her place of birth and tropical sanctuary
regardless of where she travels in the world
whether it be in Miami, Cuba, Japan or Vancouver

The Bahama Islands, Our Tropical Paradise

The Bahama Islands, our tropical paradise
the apple in eyes of the Caribbean
the place of my birth
like the planet Saturn camouflaged
in sun, sand and sea!

The Bahama Islands, our tropical paradise
the archipelago we all love
from Grand Bahama,
Abaco, Exuma to Inagua
a sanctuary where summer vacations
and island hopping are endless!

There is an abundance of activity
for Bahamians and tourists can all enjoy
Junkanoo, Goombay Fest and Pineapple Fest
buying Androsia Print
and scuba diving in The Dean's Blue Hole!

The Bahama Islands, our tropical paradise
I'm very proud to be a loyal Bahamian
with your balmy coconut trees
and your tropical white sandy beaches
you are God's gift to the tourism industry!

Depression Is a Great White Shark

Depression is a great white shark
who navigates the green sea of my emotions
ravaging parts of my aching heart
with his teeth absorbed in bitterness and loneliness
leaving behind shipwrecks of life struggles
and broken relationships in his wake

Love Is Like a Tropical Island

Love is like a tropical island
It is found in every direction you look
North, south, east and west on the map
where it sits very patiently
surrounded by calm seas
if not found there would be no paradise

Love is like a tropical island
for which its suitors search for its gold
within its golden sand, if it's not found
the island's volcanoes will erupt
and there would be no paradise

Love is like a tropical island
Where its suitors convey knowledge
Of every cardinal point, ocean depth
And trade winds all over the island
If they aren't able to locate
Its golden treasure
There would be no paradise

Ribcage Like a Conch Shell

My ribcage is like a conch shell
where you can press your ear
against my narrow chest
where the music of the ocean tides
meet the songs of the mermaids
flowing and circulating
through my heart made of ocean water
and my breastplate made of coral reefs

Fun In the Sun

Fun in the sun
found freedom
alone
in an amazing
life at the beach

Summer In Her Soul

Her soul belongs to the summer
the solar flare of the sun
melting the chambers of her golden heart
She can feel the crash of turquoise ocean waves
dancing in her veins with her cells catching
the "big one" on their microscopic surfboards
and the sounds and lyrics of summer tunes
constantly flashing in her mind like lightning
no matter how many times she tried
distancing herself away it is finally safe to conclude
that she has officially lost her soul
to the season of summer
and there is no where for her to turn back

The Joys of Nature

He painted the ocean
in fifty shades of green and blue
with his mighty paintbrush of perfection!

He sculpted a garden of coral reefs
and barrier reefs for us to see
with his powerful chisel of praise!

He sketched the outlines
of slithering bonefish and Nassau Groupers,
and sneaky Spiny Lobsters and humpback whales
with his graphite pencil of glory!

He shaded the colors of gliding dolphins
drifting sea lions and green turtles
and soaring stingrays
with his pastel sticks of righteousness!

He crafted a collage
of magical starfish, sand dollars, seahorses
conch shells, oysters, clams and seaweed
with his scissors, glue
and construction paper of greatness!

Goodbye Summer

Goodbye Summer
thank you for spending
another glorious year here with us
I wish you never had to end
it seemed like just yesterday
when the calendar was set to June 22nd
but now the time is racing
closer and closer to the end of August
where the winter solstice is drawing near

I will truly miss those
spectacular days and weeks
soaking up the sun
playing in the aqua park
on Blue Lagoon Island
and jamming to summer tunes
on my radio set to Island FM
but most of all I will miss you
for those late night sunsets
as if God left in a flashlight in the clouds

All though I do look forward
to Fall, Winter and Spring
but summer is the season
I look forward to seeing most

A Girls Night Out

Friday nights
when the boys are away
the girls will come out and play
the perfect time where us girls
get to bond with each other
a time we get to
share our secrets together
share our feelings together
listen and dance to island music
until we can't sit down
while enjoying our feast of lobster tails
and French fries
before watching Moana
on the big screen
and writing and reciting
our poetry for our shared
love of beaches, islands
oceans and mermaid fantasies together
under the moonlight stars by the sea
