Morse Code

I cry for help in Morse Code
But you won’t see it unless you’re listening really hard.
And you won’t hear it unless you’re watching really hard.
You’ll see it when I suddenly stop smiling, or start talking in monosyllables.
You’ll see it when my voice becomes cool and emotionless, or when I’m gazing into space.
Or when I keep hugging you goodbye, and don’t let go, because I don’t want to be alone.
You’ll hear it when my hands start shaking, or my eye starts to twitch.
But if you really search my eyes— I’m really good at lies—but my eyes will tell you why.
You’ll hear it when I withdraw from human touch.
My cry is silent, but you’ll hear it if you’re watching close enough.

Broken Chain

We are broken like the chain on his dog tag that I wore around my neck.

Was It Lies

You can call me what you will,
But your opinion does not define me.

If you say I am a hypocrite,
Then every word I said was a lie.
But it felt more real to me
Than praising the lord from a church pew on Sunday mornings.
Every time my lips parted to whisper the words “I love you”
I meant them more than every time I said I was hungry.
And every time I held you close,
I loved it more than I loved myself.

If you could ask every person I spoke to
While you were away
They would say I loved you with devotion.
I could have had any guy I wanted.
But I waited. For my boy. Who never returned.
I waited. Spoke of nothing with more pride and love than I did of you.
The person who returned was a stranger’s soul inhabiting my boy’s body.
You tore me apart, tendon from tendon with every word you spoke, like knives carving me into pieces.
They didn’t understand the depth at which I fell for you.
And how badly you had the power to hurt me with your words.
Because I practically worshipped the ground you walked.
Heart pounding, tears flowing at every letter I received.
The first time I heard your voice, I broke down in a torrent of tears.
My friends told me they had never seen me so damn happy.

If you call me a hypocrite,
Then you are lying to yourself because you can’t get over me.
You know damn well no one ever treated you as good as I did.
I was your world, and you were mine, but in a flash the memories were lies.
Corrupted by time and hatred, and corroded by bitterness.

There Is No Title For Pain

Your arms were safe for me until I decided I needed to leave. Then I tasted the bitterness I had seen you carry in your soul. The bitterness that you said would never touch me, cut like knives to the depths of my vulnerable heart. I’m sorry I hurt you, but Dear God, you hurt me more.

Different Endings

I could cut my wrists a thousand times,
but in the end you still can’t be mine.
A thousand different ways the story could have played through,
but only one allows me to keep you.
You used to be the starlight in my eyes,
the even in the dark the sunshine’s.
The dark bit of sin in the corner of my mind—
A reason to leave that I could not find.
It was just an unthinkable thing to do.
To shatter the heart of my love that was you.
Two different decisions that tore our worlds apart,
I’m still praying that one day you’ll have a change of heart.
I know that my decision is not yours,
But one day it will be too late to open that Door.

Falling Into Place

The pieces of me shattered and flew out the window, like the mirror in Lord Tennyson’s “Lady of Shallot”, and the pieces fell into place on the ground; creating a new version of me.

Display Case

It s hard being the center of attention for so many greedy eyes, when you only want one pair locked on you. Or when you want none. But if you put yourself in a box, it locks you away from the world, cuts off your oxygen and slowly suffocates you in utter darkness. A glass case is no better, for the eyes hungrily grab whatever they can find.

To Those Who Dont Believe In Magic

There is magic somewhere
In the sparkling eyes of a child
On a warm summer day.
Splashing in the ocean’s water

There is magic somewhere
In the chirping birds at twilight
Singing songs to sad hearts
Sparking the songs inside of them

There is magic somewhere
In the twinkling stars above
Shining in the dark night
Lighting the way for the lost souls

There is magic somewhere
In the laughter of a baby
Spreading smiles like fire
To all around who see and hear

Magic is everywhere
In joy of all the little things
Magic is inside us
When we ignite the dying lights.

My Darkest Paintbrush

Does it make sense?
The reason why the whole world starts to fall apart
When the stars shine?
How the darkest hours are on the bathroom floor
With the lights on
Staring at his razor blades on the counter
Wondering why
Of all the things he left, why was it your
Favorite paintbrush
Seeing the whole world in red and black.
Carving his name
Painstakingly into your red stained flesh so
that he doesn’t
Leave you like everyone else did
But wait didn’t
You run from the last one who tried to stay
Didn’t you plug
Your ears so the shock waves stopped killing
You slowly. Still hear
The soul wrenching sobs coming from his frame
One more name
Written in your red stained flesh
Like a thorn in your
Side. Forever in pain. Because you can’t win
This one. This time.
Look at the mountain of unbeaten wars.
Paint with fire and
Blood, the scars that litter your life.
Scream, violently,
The words trapped inside your head
From the salted
Fresh open wounds blistering inside.
Does it make sense
Why the darkest hours are when the
World falls apart
On the bathroom floor, when the stars
Come out. Staring
At your favorite paintbrush that
He left on the
Counter, using the blade to paint
Lemon juice names
Into your freshly salted flesh.
