Generations

The person that I've grown to be
Has rhythm in her soul.
Music shaped my life, you see
It played a central role.

The sixties made us “Twist and shout”
The Beatles held our hand.
I liked the things they sang about
They're still my favorite band.

The seventies brought us “Dancing Queen”
Led Zeppelin brought some others.
Dolly sang about “Jolene”
Michael left his brothers.

The eighties put us “Back in black"
“Purple Rain” was killer.
Michael Jackson led the pack
With record breaking “Thriller"

The nineties introduced a sound
It changed the way we sing.
Who knew Rap would stick around
What did 2000 bring?

Nickleback, Alicia Keys
Beyonce and Adele
What music will the future bring
Only time will tell.

Mother's Love

As I look back into my past
Sweet memories fill my mind,
How the time went oh so fast
I wish I could rewind.

Go back to when my biggest fear
Was pissing off my dad,
His lectures I would have to hear
When I did something bad.

Sometimes Grandma got involved
When we kids would fight,
A switch would deem the problem solved
And put us all to flight.

But when I fell and skinned a knee
Or someone broke my heart,
The only one to comfort me
Was with me from the start.

With gentle hands to dry my tears
For me there was no other,
Her snow white wings would calm my fears
That Angel was my Mother.

Her love I never had to doubt
The groundwork she had laid,
For me to grow and soon move out
How I wish I'd stayed.

Life went by at such a speed
It all was just a blur,
She taught me all I'd ever need
Except living without her.

My life will never be the same
Her love I can't replace,
Often, I still call her name
I long to see her face.

One day soon we'll meet once more
My heart will then be whole,
A reunion I am waiting for
Now Heaven is my goal.

Oh, Music

Oh, Music
Oh music, how you know my soul.
You pulled me from the darkest corners
of my mind.
Taking me from depression’s grasp,
to a mood that conjures foot-tapping joy.

What power you do possess.
Changing and saving lives in peril.
The best friend who is always near you yet,
the enemy of a broken heart.

The ability to describe
every thought and emotion from deep within me,
when my tongue cannot find the words.
Providing bittersweet reminders
of losses of the past and hopes for the future.

Oh music, are you even aware of your impact on nations?
Bringing people together and tearing them apart,
while they remain clueless to your cues.

I believe we enter the afterlife riding on the lyrics of a well-written song.
To spend eternity singing praise and humming emotion.
