My Drealocks Lover

MY DREADLOCKS LOVER

Your dreadlocks flutters like streamers
Your thick dreadlocks spreads like tethers
Your eyes are like coffee mix with white lily

My lover,
I come from a beautiful place
Where they believe dread is a taboo
Pronouncing the word Da-da is a grievous sin
Where you are told what to believe
And even hate what you believe

In between my Momma's damnation, my Poppa's bellicose, and my usual rebuttal of indifference
All began because of you.

I am told to stop loving you
I am told you are a lie
I am told you are an illusion
I am told that contemporary history books may forget my name
Because of you.

I was told that Spartan Hoplites wore a formal locks but you don't
Why?

Are all dreads dreadful?
Dreads are not dreadful,is it?

I love every strand of your dread
Marley's midnight ravers resonates my love for you
You are the worst thing that has happened to me
I blame my soul for being a courier to the wind
I won't allow religion to destroy our love

All my sins,
All my memories,
All my ideas,
My love for art,
I'll tie into your dreadlocks like a scrapbook
I'll hold all very close to my heart with a marked cowries for every event

Dreads are for legends!
Dreads are myths!
Dreads are locks to our soul.

O Saviours

O Saviours!

We wondered through the valley
Our hands clenched together
Culture destroyed us

Our mother's tongue brought pain to us
It torn us apart and brought subjugated Joy

Here you come,"to save"
Here you come,"to help"
Here we sit, eyes shut;arms akimbo waiting

Here you are:
Setting up schools, preaching the gospel, building industries, inventing scary magnificent giants, producing multi-coloured pomade in the name of pigmentation

What happened?
Our melanin! Our pride was stripped off!

O Saviours! O Saviours!
You hurt us
You hurt our land
You hurt our world

O Saviours!O Saviours!
You saved us
You brought good to us
You made us wise

Rainy Love

How will I describe your beauty with rainy season?
You are lovely, lovelyest and moderate like county family
I can't describe you-you are beyond description

You are like clouds in cape always ready to shed tears of joy with its rhythmic beat
Upon the earth, right after the ravage Sand dune and swing of heat

Every plant,flower,bud and leaf
Blossom like you!

I laugh,hysterically at the wordings of the Preacher;
      "Vanity of vanities
       Vanity of vanities,all is vanity"

I will lay beside you all the time
My undying love for you will be better than Romeo and Juliet
For your love is better than wine
Because of the fragrance of your good ointments,
Your name is ointment poured forth;
Hence, the world loves you except for the Preacher

Behold, you are fair, my love!
Behold,you are fair
You have dove's eyes
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see;you are immortal

Behold, you are handsome, my love!
Yes,with your seductive greyish eyes

I will run after you
I was light-skin and lovely
Look upon me now, because I am dark,
the sun has tanned me, Alas!

In wet season, by night on my bed,
I sought for Rainy;the one I love
I sought,but I did not find!

I will rise now, and find my Rainy Love-in the streets,in the squares,in the market places,in the brothels and motels
I will seek the one I love
I sought for Rainy, but I did not find

They Vigilantes found me in dismay, I said;"Have you seen the one I love, Rainy?"
They replied;No
One amongst them asked;"Who is Rainy?"
I replied;"a part of me"

Now,I know the meaning of the wordings of the Preacher;
       "Vanity of Vanities
        Vanity of Vanities,all is vanity"

Sleep

O sleep!
Thy beauty flourish in thine eyes
Singing thy beautiful song of thy fountain
Embracing thou like a million canaries
How beautiful thy art!
