Lost

She always found her way home before
but this time was different
“Where have you been” he said
“I don’t know” she answered absent mindedly
as if she hadn’t really meant to answer at all
This time her eyes were empty
His heart sank he knew he had lost everything

One Million Likes

It’s just not here
I looked at your Facebook page
so much lost
your phone your dog your lover
a friendship that hat your mother
still looking for “that” moment in your life
you won’t find it here
it’s not hiding in a quote
so much lost

Crystal Clear

Looking out from the dark it’s easier to see what’s real and what’s not
Fake smiles false friendships hidden in the light shine grotesquely in the dark
Why do people say “he is in a dark place” like it’s a bad thing
Sometimes I tell people about the voices and they back away
When I realise they don’t have voices I back away
Are their lives so bland they never hear the whisper
So certain of themselves they can’t hear the roar
Do they never hear the shouting the cacophony the clamour of being
Looking out from the dark it’s easier to see what’s real and what’s not
You get left alone when it’s dark

Nature - a Tough Task Master

They swarm from a hole in the ground
Some running left some right
Some straight ahead others double back

They charge they bustle chaotically frantically
Can this be their last day?
Is there a plan? Maybe it’s just a panic attack

The mayhem continues the bustle unabated
They cover the available land
Is that the plan? I can’t see it

Each having found their spot they settle
They shuffle they shuffle
Side to side moving but the slightest bit

They begin to stir agitated agitated
They surge forward a maddened army
Renting the air with a blood curdling battle cry

Toot Toot
It’s on time today
Off to work now, bye!

Flowers In My Mind

One day I met a flower lover
She wanders her garden in her mind
She sees beauty everywhere
She laughs like a child
She plays like a child
She loves like a child
She changes my life everyday

Milk Crates

trying not to frighten myself I slowly open my eyes
peering through tunnels waiting for light
day into night night into day
shopping bags in the kitchen dishes in the sink
books balancing on milk crates
words fly off the page like pigeons and settle far away
ghosts of a different life

Cyclone Sam

Cyclone Sam will cross the coast at 7am tomorrow
Spirited, wide eyed, ready for more
Swirling, never stopping, the world just isn’t big enough
Busy busy busy
Dragons to hunt, aliens to fight, dinosaurs to chase
Have you met the smartest man in the world yet?
Are you sure it’s not Grandad? Are you really sure?
A laugh so rich even the kookaburras stop to listen
Telling another story, time stands still, everyone is spellbound
Holding people in your hand comes easy
Holding hearts without knowing it just as easy

Mum

Your life was not measured in time
Days and years no real reflection of you
You would speak without saying word
Your laugh would fill a Concert Hall
Your spirit, smile and caring live forever
I look into your eyes, I see my daughter
We haven’t lost you but still we cry
Loving you so easy, leaving you so hard
Years could never measure your life
Years will never dim our love
Then, now, always

One Day

He was lost again with no idea how he got there and no idea how to leave.
He closed his eyes and hoped things would get better but morning brought no relief. Getting up sometimes took the strength of ten.
Why was he so small, so weak, so alone.
He closed his eyes again and hoped those feelings would float away like debris upon the tide.
One day he said, one day he repeated to himself.
