Rainy Day Repetition

Rainy Day Repetition
(26-line Blitz, adapted for teaching young poets the structure)

Write fifty things
Write about rain
Rain that falls
Rain that splashes
Splashes my umbrella
Splashes when I stomp
Stomp in any puddle
Stomp in every puddle
Puddle in the gutter
Puddle near the park
Park is nearly empty
Park is fully wet
Wet and damp and slippery
Wet all day it seems
Seems like a perfect day
Seems I’ll have my way
Way to go nature!
Way to cancel school
School can wait for sunshine
School must wait to dry
Dry enough for books
Dry enough for papers
Papers can’t get mushy
Papers must be crisp
Crisp chill in the air
Air smells like spring

St Patty S Day Trick

St. Patty's Day Trick

I ran to find the hidden gold -
The legend of the rainy bow.
I thought I’d be rich,
But the whole thing’s a trick!
I got nothing but tired and old.

My Little Sister

My Little Sister

There is a girl I really like.
I haven't seen her in a long time.
She is my little snowflake.
I really wish she was still mine.

With hair like glitter
And a smile like a dream,
My mind remembers
All that I've ever seen.

Oh! Little sister.
My heart! My love!
I pray you'll come back
My sweet little dove.

The Measure of a Leprechaun

The Measure of A Leprechaun

Hi, my name is Sean.
I’m a wee, bitty Leprechaun.
I’m a creature of lore,
Only two foot four,
But my legend goes on and on!

The Knight and Beast

I met a knight.
He liked to fight.
I watched him run from left to right.

He had no fear.
It was here
Where man and Beast could fight and cheer.

A witch!
She caused a twitch.
The knight, he flipped and itched and itched.

The curse, it failed.
The witch, she ailed.
Then, beast and knight ran fast and bailed.

The beast and knight
They ran all night.
Until they came upon a light.

It glowed so bright,
They lost their sight,
And every day became like night.

Adoptive Moms Are Great

Adoptive moms are great. Really!
A special mom will come to you just when the moment’s right.
They’ll show up day or night. They are truly worth the wait!

Adoptive moms are protective.
They’ll never let anyone hurt you. You are so, so special.
They’ll always be there for you and you’ll always have what you need.

Adoptive moms are loving.
They hold you when you cry. They hug you when you’re sad.
They’ll love you and adore you even when you are mad, or really, really bad!

Adoptive moms are helpful.
They notice when you struggle, so they’ll teach you many things.
They want you to succeed with anything that you can dream.

Adoptive moms are strong.
They don’t lose faith when days are long. They won’t give up on you.
They’ll fight when things go wrong. They are people you can depend on.

Dandelion Dance

Dandelion Dance
(10-line Blitz, adapted for teaching young poets the structure)

Dancing is what I love
Dancing in the air
Air above
Air below
Below me is a cloud
Below it is the ground
Ground that holds
Ground that grows
Grows my seeds
Seeds for next spring

Hop and Hide

Hop and Hide
(10-line Blitz, adapted for teaching young poets the structure)

Easter bunny hops
Easter bunny finds
Finds a soft, grassy patch
Finds a great place to hide
Hide the eggs well
Hide them under leaves
Leaves of a great, big tree
Leaves that have fallen down
Down into the green they go
Go look around, good luck!

Debut Dodoitsu

She showed up at rehearsal
Ready for her stage debut.
She said her name with a smile
And broccoli bits.

In the Waves

Wave.
Crash
Over!
Hold your breath
Until it passes
And you can rise up once again.
