Do I Have What It Takes

Is it really a skill that I have in my possession
Or is it just an obsession, not even worth a mention
Can everyone do what I do
Or is it as easy as accessing the loo
Can words be manipulated, manifested into something sweet
by just any person you can find on the street
Do I hold the talent to find the balance between fiction and reality
Can I paint a picture, create a duality
Can I compare and contrast, correctly using like or as
Have I acquired enough vocabulary to become a visionary
My wish is that my pen is never stationary, always flowing, forming letters, into words, into sentences
I hope I never have to feel a repentance for the work I put out
But let's not have any doubt
I know I can be a great poet, I just have to show it

Conformity

Conformity; a box; a structure- the structure
A definition; a mandate; an unwritten set of rules; guidelines
A single path woven by society
An invisible path only discovered when one strays
The oppression; the judgement; the criticism of simply being
DIFFERENT
‘If you’re looking for a change, don’t,’
They say, as this has always been the way
We are living in a winter, keeping us wrapped in the blankets of stagnation
But do not be mistaken, for this is not a seasonal winter
No, it is a different kind of cold
An undetectable freeze, unbeknownst to those that skate by, consumed in a world that is afraid of change, of what might happen if one were to draw outside the lines
To those who dare crack the ice, throw off the blankets, divert from the one way street to go the opposite direction
A round of applause
Because to conform is to fit in with the social norms

But what are these standards and why?
Why should one feel forced to comply? To identify? To internalize?
Our personas cannot be regulated; we will rise
From the ashes of Oppression, we will fight the fires of Repression, put out the flames of Suppression
The world is in a dire state so be the one to open the gates
Do not allow for prolongation of the inevitable reformation
We have an obligation to this nation
Because the worst is not yet to come, it has already swept through
But the change starts with you

Regret

Regret is a six letter word
Clawing at the heart, engulfing it in sorrow like the shriek of a lost soul, piercing like a razor sharp dagger
Regret, the most undesirable emotion
A concoction of fear, anger, and sadness
FEAR of reoccurance
ANGER that it ever occurred
SADNESS because you can never go back and fix what you have done
No matter how many times you kick yourself, you can never, ever go back

Regret, causing you to question every and any decision you have and will ever make
The agonizing torture of knowing you could possibly make the same mistake will haunt you, parallel to an evil spirit, sending a shiver straight down your core to the bone
The difference being regret is inexplicable until you experience it's gut wrenching pain
Because the ache of regret is horrifyingly unexpected, like an innocent venturing out into the ocean for the first time and finding yourself being torn apart by forces much stronger then you could ever imagine
The thing with regret is that no one can quite grasp the feeling until they have felt it
To get all of the warmth sucked out of your body to be replaced with a deathly chill
Oh yes, then you will know

The Plead

I begged don't you go
My sweet darling don't you know
That I love you so

Hidden Demons

The approval I seek
The respect is all there
The approval I crave
My hatred is fair
A storm is brewing
But when and where?
My emotions are bottled
For I don't easily scare
A shell I have formed
To break one shall not dare
The demons are tamed
But I would never share
What triggers my demons
to come out of their lair
What triggers my demons'
nostrils to flare
