Death At the Door

Death came in the earlier hours of a cold Winter's day,
It came quick to her room, it took her breath away,
Lying in her bed, just before she fell asleep,
She said her prayers & asked for her soul to keep,

As she looked out the window, she counted the stars,
In the distance, she saw people and the sound of cars,
not knowing then, in these last hours she would depart,
to be among the stars, the dying hours about to start,

Her childhood memories were so far away now, her children away,
the Angel of death approaches slowly, the hour, the time, the day,
She went slowly, peacefully in her sleep with a slight pulse fading fast,
Her moments on earth, long gone, her loving memories to last,

For days long after she has gone, her children live in her place,
Where once she would fill the room with energy and her grace,
Memories of ones long gone, make us yearn for something more,
so living in the moment is a message she sends, to love and adore,

for your time on earth can go as quick as a falling star, in the night,
shining bright one moment and then totally out of mind and sight!
Oh death do not come so soon to my door, so that I may love a little more........
