Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
Like a foreign sun
In imaginary sky
Somehow, you shed light

Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
Busy shopping mall parking lots
Car doors opening and closing
Words flashing on digital billboards
A screech, a honk, some belligerent
Cursing bastard, a car alarm blaring
The noisy comings and goings
Of folks numb to the chaos
Rows upon rows of pollutants
Oil-stained pavement
Loose change on the dashboard
Keys left in the ignition
The engine still idling
Me, in the driver’s seat pondering it all

Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
CHANGE OF SEASON
Today brings about a new season
A lingering darkness awaiting the
Sprout of sunrise in an eastern sky
Winds shifting, a drafty Canadian air
Cool and prickly on the skin
Clouds dense and low-hanging as though
Stuck in the throat of heaven
Like a ball of cotton
Leaves changing to rust, gold, and bronze
Curling into themselves, dropping from limbs
Like fluttering origami kites
A sudden eruption of autumn shades,
Blooms of mum and aster
Like tiny bold-colored umbrellas
Snapped abruptly open
Such a phenomenal change of scenery,
A cheerful death, bound to bring
Yet another spring awakening.

Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
Listen to the birth before sunrise
That predawn movement which
Pushes us into the light
Songs dispersing from elm
And maple, spruce and pine
Oak and ash
The skitter across a lawn
The ripples in the pond
The breath escaping our lungs
And it is not yet daybreak

Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
A strange sort of sky
how the clouds gathered and spun
and squeezed out the rain

Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
Her silhouette in moonlight’s gaze
accentuates her splendid curves
she dances in moon’s golden glow
feet tiptoe ‘cross the velvet turf
She floats through night’s gentle breeze
as if she were a lullaby
enticing only lovely dreams
amid a velvet midnight sky

Rhonda Rieck-Rush Poem
I tell you, do not be saddened
that Jesus has called me home
for I’ve completed the journey
and now stand at His Throne
the weight of this world’s been lifted
that I might rest in peace
in the presence of our Savior
His love shall never cease
