Flash Cash

Her iconic smile in repose:

she shied from the camera's flash.

But Shylock's pound of flesh

               prized by paparazzi,

was paid by Princess Diana...

her bloody crash, fueled by cash.

Iconic Test

put your fingers on the chest:
this is an Iconic Test-
you will intimately see
your Highlight Identity
flying from the Human Tree
like a Stork who”s inspiration
will restore an Old Migration
all the void will surely be
just a slightly blurred sea
and you”ll be at home so soon
and your head will be the Moon.

Bridge (Familiarity Unknown)

Michelangelo
Stretched God’s hand to Adam’s;
A bridge to heaven.

* For Gareth James' Familiarity Unknown contest and intended to honor of both the image
and the thoughts it inspired. The natural bridge and its expansion across that magnificent
sky reminded me of the now iconic image that Michelangelo painted on the ceiling of the
Sistine Chapel. I've been chasing Michelangelo lately, so it doesn't surprise me that I'd see
reflections of him in nature (or vice versa?).

Burj Al Arab

A gigantic sail looms, above the sea,
Anchored by steel braces, of creativity,
Start of a journey, from an island beyond the surf,
Into the hour, of the twenty-first century turf.

High above the mast, the yard hangs free,
For ‘sailor guests’ to dine, in exclusivity,
They watch boats set sail, on the sea,
And relinquish the skyline, of an exotic city.

Beyond the yard, on a perch, ‘round’,
‘Manmade butterflies’, often touchdown.
Utilised on occasions, for symbolic games,
To convey delight, across continents.

The rich and the famous, ride to the deck,
In royal carriages, drawn by animals long dead,
They alight at the Galway, lined with palm trees,
Suited chaperons’ welcome, with warm sea breeze.

They look around, through the dazzle, to see;
Stacked, decked cabins, of outlandish luxury,
The centre of its universe, is the extension of the sea,
Exotic free fishes pace in, with moving galaxies,

The glitterati with grace, pace all around,
Meetings take place between gilded crowns,
Heaven of magical illusions on worldly ground,
That steps out into a sea, for unknown bound.

Humanity’s expressions of beauty epitome,
Few strokes symbolic of an iconic guest home,
Humility of a creator to sail into the unknown,
With the analogy drawn to a white marble tomb.

The Legend of Nolan Ryan Major League Baseballs Strike Out King

It's not easy becoming a Legendary
Major League Baseball pitcher.
It never was and will never be.
You get put through the wringer
and hung out to dry.
From time to time you'll get little or no
run support.
You may have to face Legendary Icons
of the game 2 and 3 times in a game.
Come face to face with undisguised
Batting Champions.
Silver Slugger Award Winners.
Members and potential Members of the
500 Home Run Club.
Members and potential Members
of the 3000 Hits Club
A few Future Members of
Baseballs Hall of Fame
as well as Iconic MLB ALL STARS.
You will face monumental challenges.
You'll get worn down and roughed up
being on the road 82 games a season.

As a Major League Baseball Starting Pitcher
you suck it up, go out on the mound
and challenge history.
You bring your "A" game
You bring your best fastball
your best curve ball
and your best change up.
When you average 33 starts a season.
Average 10 complete games per season.
Average 3 shut outs per season.
Throw a No Hitter every 3.857 seasons.
Face an average 972 batters per season.
Average 232 innings per season
Through hot , cold , humid and sticky weather.
Give up an average 169 hits per season.
Average 232 innings per season.
Average 82 earned runs per season.
Give up an average 14 home runs in 33 games
over 232 innings per season.
When you average 120 walks per season
Strike out an average 246 batters per season
for a career total of 5714.

It kinda looks like this.
6.6 hits per 9 innings
4.7 walks per 9 innings
9.5 strike outs per 9 innings
Over 27 seasons.
When you do that for a total of 27 seasons
The critics will call you the next
Nolan Ryan.

Metacarpals Phalanges and Sesamoids - Beauty Immortal

Metacarpals Phalanges and Sesamoids - Beauty Immortal

The hands, it's all about the hands for me
Streamline with creamy silk skin so fine
The elegance, the aesthetics, the peripheral view
The long slender phalanges, so ethereal
The disquiet beauty, the flowing artistically magnificent lines
So alluring it feels as though the hands can't be real.

Knowing deep inside my blackest of hearts
That those delicious beauties
So feminine and fragile, graceful, pristine, and agile
Could very well rip you apart
Deviant, sinister, lethal weapons, they could easily end your start
They masquerade as magic - mythical and superior
Far-advanced, emotively austere perfection
Of which all else is seen as inferior.

Hands of refinement that have been pampered, oiled, and manicured
These hands have created masterpieces, they have been held
They have been loved
And have always had a comfortable home
They are a blood moon in a deathly dark sky
The want I feel for them is all-consuming, a demonic obsession looming
Intombing comes to mind
Which is actually macabrely amusing
For a crypt of the finest design is where I house all mine.

Affirmation - yes indeed you understood correctly
That is what I did say
Trust and believe - I would not have them any other way
In my sanctuary of cool, and dimly lit, embraced by all of evil
And of the most impervious kind
My meticulously chosen, surgically removed pairs of hands
Are anything but bland
Individually glass-encased, labeled, and displayed
In the most iconic of ways.

This Otherworldly renowned domicile of hands
I am proud to say - is the only one in all of the lands
A kind of designer boutique of all hands unique
And definitely not to be confused with Trick-or-Treat or feet
Of the countless sets of hands in my collection
My most treasured pair that are there
Are those of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost
How's that for dereliction of the Host?
