Graduation

Upon the podium I stand

A sea of faces before me

Their eyes reflecting glassy expectancy

My lips quiver knees buckle

As I bow

The principal smiles

Sunbeams clutch at the words I speak

Transmitting them to eager ears

Words splinter against vibrating drums

With piety valor pride and joy

I praise the graduates of June '99

Well done my friends be strong be bold

In the face of uncertain times

Black tassels dance

Blackbirds soar into a vivid sunset

Parchment scrolls rustle

Stirred by a mischievious breeze

A slow smile curls my lips

Take a bow I urge
