A tunnel of branches with leafy green shade
Arc over the winding quiet road
On our windward island’s side
Heading toward the north shore
Where giant waves treat surfers
To the thrill of a lifetime in winter season.
Look deeper into the tunnel of leafy branches
To espy the trail of ants busy at work
And see the gecko capture his breakfast roach.
Look beyond the giant surf
Down through the teal colored waves
And see honu swim with schools of fish,
In unison, as they go about their exciting day.
One cannot help but sense that deeper flow,
That serenity of our island’s glow,
Which surges forth through verdant
Flapping leaves with bright bananas
Peeking out, or not be moved by radiant blossoms
Of varied hues of the ever blooming China rose.
As the sun rises over Diamond Head
And birds take flight--to any soul’s delight--
They begin their chatter amidst the fluid air,
The day begins just as it ends,
In paradise.

Side note* The Pacific Green Sea Turtle
Did you know that all the hatchlings in the nest of the Pacific green sea turtle are either
male or female? The sex of the turtles is determined by the temperature of the nest.
Cooler nests produce a clutch of males, while warmer nests produce females.
I had an Ananas
Served by a Barefooted waiter
Around a Bonfire
When the Boats came in
Through the clear waters
The Cameras went Click Click
As the Crabs ran into the sea
We dried our towels on the Dwarf palms
The Excitement made the Fishermen drink Safari Cane
And Goody joined the Giriama dance.
And the German swung in the green Hammock
There was Hot water in the showers at midnight
Children of the Island don’t like to fish
She taught me the value of the Mangrove
As we sunk the seeds in the Mud
The New age walls are something
And Omari loved Riding in the boat
Forgot all about the Rusted shower heads
Sleeping under nets in the Sand
Alerted us to Sunrise
And Seashells tattooed our faces
The Salty water and Smoke
Soaking in the Sun and building Sandcastles
With Sea weed from sparkling sea water
Telling Tales under a star studded sky
Terse smiles from in-laws who were shy
The Watermelon was super.
At Georgia's Laugh Inn
there's no liquor,
no credit cards,
just cash.
There aint no
whiskey between
ol' bar stools
ragged beards
and confederate caps.
At Georgia's you can gamble,
there's poker, cards
and dice.
The airs a sea of smoky Marbolo
The perfumes sea salt with bud light.
At Georgia's you can step down,
to the coast of the old south.
Get a laugh in at her Laugh Inn,
before wandering
someplace else.
