I Hope I Helped

…This is where this story ends,
…And with hope one more begins,

…But it all depends on you,
…And what you decide to do,

…Will you take these words and share,
…These poems with artistic flair,

…Are these lessons only mine,
…Or should they be more refined,

…As my life comes to an end,
…I have no more time to spend,

…Spinning these gossamer webs,
…As the blood from my heart ebbs,

…So no more sweet lullabies,
…As this crass old poet dies,

…But with one more line to go,
…I do hope I helped you grow.

A Curse

I went down once to a river,
And saw a willow tree oh so old.
Burning wildly inside my mind,
Seeking for old friends to be kind.

A shadow in the current whispered inside,
“You never step in the same river twice.”
The illusion untold is what I find,
Loosening my hold upon the grasp of time.

The lizard king crawls inside my soul.
It spoke of hope oh so bold.
A cursing light that keeps you from leaving,
Hope is the one thing I wish would leave me.

Smoking my mind out of sights,
And seeing so much more and so divine.
Looking at life in sights never seen
Realizing life isn’t as easy as it seems.

When will hope leave my soul?
When will this curse let me go?
It keeps me alive when I want to leave,
To experience the other side and see freely.

Sonnet Ix

To hope in dreaming of a love enduring;
Is a hope befitting even the least courageous heart.
To smile in dreaming of a love that’s stirring;
Is a smile softly singing what the voice can’t start.
To see in dreaming a love that is breathing;
Is to see in living that truth and beauty never part.
To know in dreaming that love is beginning;
Is to know fortune wakes and plots on heaven’s star filled chart.
To hear in dreaming that love’s drum is sounding;
Is to hear warning of the battle the heart wants waged.
To free in dreaming a love that’s returning;
Is to free the universe from what fear has kept caged.
From love’s dream does come fortunes for few.
Yet without there’s no light when stars sleep and Sun’s due.

A Lovers Tale

He lies in his solitary bed each night
Surrounded by demons and devils
Growing each day to shut out the most basic of needs
To touch and be touched
To stay sane

Unable to trust nothing and no one
To fight to stay alive
To give nothing up
No matter what
As a gesture, a word, or a look could cause death

Vows are made to himself
Excuses that need to be turned around
Always looking for that hope
But only seeing disappointment instead
Others that prejudge

To learn dignity and hope are not on the agenda
For right now, it is a matter of survival
Within himself all alone as he sees it
Yet depending on her to keep the hope of a future alive

She lies alone in a bed
Surrounded by family, pets and friends
Always looking for that basic need within her
To touch and be touched
To stay sane

 Nature and love are a part of her life yet
SO much of her life has been alone
Afraid to reach out to others for that touch
Depending on her animals for that basic need for unconditional love

Dignity, dreams and hope are all she is made up of
Yet within herself she knows that it has to be inside for it to happen

She reaches out to him – him to her
Her family and friends are opposed and concerned
His past and age are in the way
Yet they have a connection that both seem to crave to keep

A tragedy like Romeo and Juliet where they never are to come together seems to be in the
making.

Do they beat the odds – only time will tell.
