Within Her Breath

Within Her Breath

I heard upon the desert wind,
a song that sounds so sweet.
It lives within this dry parched land,
that lays beneath my feet

It grows within the desert palm,
and shines within its sun.
A song that reaches deep inside,
that’s not for everyone.

A song I see in eyes so bright,
and in that flowing hair.
A song that creeps into the heart,
and rides the desert air.

For if I stop and feel the wind,
I know that I will hear.
The softness of your bated breath,
as I am drawing near.

I’ll hear your passion on the wind,
and touch your gentle hand.
I’ll ride between those swaying palms,
upon the desert sand.

For I will pick the fruit of love,
that lives within the palm.
And hear within your gentle breath,
a loving desert psalm.

The Third Fall of Lorelei

Perched on a stony gray shore I await
The next wayward sailors; I decree their fate
From the lofty Rhine cliffs did I long ago fall
Now passersby answer my beckoning call

Though hardy they be, my song is yet stronger
My melodies sweet, my endurance longer
Through deepest of waters they rarely shall pass
Once caught in my spell their soul is held fast
For, betrayed by my only true love, I avenge
By stealing dear lads from their lovers and friends

The vessel I see on high wind does approach
Threatening the reef 'neath my feet to encroach
The better for me to draw near weary men
Who once resting their heads will not venture again

But, lo, what is this that I see at the helm?
A man whose possession would rule any realm
The fire that alights me has so permeated
The fury is gone that I once would have meted
Instead, I desire the strength of his arms
The taste of his lips and the wealth of his charms

It is puzzling, 'tis true, my unlikely behavior
Still, somehow I know that this man is my savior
As I depart from the shoreline and swim for the bow
I am drawn by the call of his siren song now

Copyright, Donna Golden, 1999. Revised, January, 2009.
This poem was inspired by "Die Lorelei", by Heinrich Heine, which was, itself, based on the
German legend of a siren that lured sailors to their doom on the banks of the Rhine river.

Music

No matter what mood
No matter what place
My mind does get cooled
And it brings a smile to my face

It's my passion, it's my love
It could even be a dove
It could be a pigeon (for all you know)
Or it could just say, "So you reap, as you sow."

Music is in my soul**
From the top of my head to the bottom of my sole
It fills me completely
And I move energetically

** These words are taken from the Jonas Brothers' song Music's In My Soul. I take no
credit for it and give them a double thumbs-up for the amazing music they're creating! LOL
P.S: I was humming this song when I was writing this poem... oh yeah..and I do not sing..

I Am a Song

If I was a song would you play me
Or just let the pages be
Blowing across an empty table
Like some unread worn fable

Would you filter through and read each page
Direct the words as if I was on a stage
Tell me what and where to go
Or whether to come to and fro

If I was a song would you sing me
And find the chords that has to be
Take the time to make it right
Or would you put me out of sight

I wonder as I look up at you
Do you even feel like I do
The pages lie here for you to see
I am your song come and play me
