Drowning In Her Tears

Echoes from a haunting refrain
buried deep within the many corridors
of her heart, weave their tangled, worn threads
   playing on her memories
like the delicate, frayed strings of a lonely violin

Lingering whispers intricately
seek the depths to the labyrinth of her soul
creating a tapestry of wild cinnamon roots and twisted leaves

Her wounds of torn and shattered illusions
roar their voices in her mind
like a jungle of ethereal savagery
   that clipped her silken dreams
leaving her flying with broken wings

He'd betrayed her with his feigned love
leaving her void of soothing rhythms
in which to bathe her wounded flesh

Fractured fragments of terra cotta stones
and random pieces of broken seashells
was the substance used as ragged patches
   for her tattered, broken heart

The mortar- damp from tears that fell
like foggy, misty rain on delicate, shattered glass
Amethyst, turquoise skies filled the air
with the earthy smell of oncoming storms.

Every fiber unraveled and unnerved her senses
as if she were on fire...
leaving her skin like that of a peeled orange
revealing the depth and layers of her strangled emotions

In the dark stillness of the night...
she heard roaring blood curdling drumbeats
of loud, rumbling thunder- shooting its devouring bolts of lightning...
shaking the whole of all Creation

She stood in the shadows- aching- bewildered
running breathlessly, seeking a fortress of safety
as the drumbeats followed her every move
The whole of Earth was suddenly filled with many
echoed songs of past remembered moons

He did not care her heart was broken,
leaving her shivering, drowning in her own tears
All she had left was a broken heart...
   cold as ice

                                                                  *~*

Among Suitcases Ii

2:01 pm
Cinnabon, California Pizza, Burger King
Let’s de-militarize the sea floor
So we can once again walk on the waters
Clear and still
2:05 pm

An infant reaches for its mother
Looking at the information monitor
“Passenger… you have a message waiting for you…”
Where are you going?
Where are you really going? And how much of yourself
Are you leaving behind?

Layovers are a poison
But the airports are so… romantic
There are no faces, only hearts

Everyone seems so excited
Maybe they’re going home
Or trying to get away from it

My flight boards in an hour
But my guitar’s out of tune…
I need new strings anyway
Mine are starting to rust

12:20 pm
Luggage is in the trunk
Farewells have been said
Everything hangs in silence…
Then the rain comes,
Smudging all the memories together
Into a single human experience
That penetrates so deep into the heart
That it becomes a part of every single choking breath you take
And you forget…

9:30 am
Last time you have breakfast here, so make it a good one…
It doesn’t matter, I’m sick of this food anyway…

Last minute scan of the room,
Don’t forget your rosary on the bedpost
Or the rose petals hiding in your mattress
Or the tears staining the hallway carpet
Got it all?
No room?
You’re not leaving without it… find a solution

So I swallow everything
And wait for it to seep into my veins
With every pulse
You feel more alive
But less human

Stronger
But further away

Wider horizons
But with less to fill the skyline

1:36 am

Blank walls
Empty bathrooms
Dim hallways
Ticket stubs and boarding passes
In the trash, recycled paper
Recycled experiences

A flutter of confusion and excitement
A glance into the unknown
Then pause before the plunge

00:00
This is where you are
00:00
Trapped in a single moment
00:00
No one else
00:00
Just you
00:00
And with every experience
00:00
You grow
00:00
Until finally…
