The Log Cabin

There’s a cabin in the mountains
The deer are everywhere
You might see a coyote
Or perhaps a big black bear

Close to where two rivers join
No game fish can be found
Until the sockeye salmon run
Is on the breeding ground

Long before a cabin was built
We parked a trailer there
Camping on the weekends
In clear pure mountain air

Then a truck hauled in the logs
A contractor built the shell
To complete all the rest of it
The family worked like hell

Our daughters and their husbands
All gave a helping hand
The toilet was the first thing done
For reasons you understand

The insulation, the electrical
The cabinets on the wall
Without any outside help
We had to do it all

We did cave in and hire someone
The wallboard to install
But we hung up the ceiling fan
And no one took a fall

Install the sinks, install a tub
Apply finish here and there
With Electrical heaters in the wall
We were almost there

When we had the linoleum laid
And the carpet on the floor
Time for all to celebrate
No need to work no more

This all happened years ago
It was completed in’91
Now thinking back on it
That work was mostly fun

Humble Pie (Taking Back My Empire)

Here is the masterplan of the 3 comings
of your second coming

If there are any musicians that would like to work for jesus
now accepting resumes

you would be working for a record label
where all profits go to charity
to end world hunger
and poverty

Your albums will be intelligently composed riddles
made out of songs
so when a fan figures out
the important thing you have written for them to discover
they can send the answer via fanmail
for swag

If the fans continue to do their homework
eventually they will stumble upon
an invitation to one of the three comings
disguised as a huge rock show more elaborate and more well thought out
than woodstock

This will eventually lead men in circles to their enlightenment
which we will mastermine
to hopefully end all wars

a great and secret show
with a word to get what you came for
The whole time we are playing for the experience of a lifetime
a 7day work week of taking turns
living one of god's several birthdays

the other music industries
proof of being able to turn the other cheek
so they can work with intelligence and the military
to resolve many problems
and prove they are indeed a part of keeping society safe

when it all comes together reality mind change her mind
about herself
playing matchmaker like cupid
might be how you find your soul mate
if it comes to your sex life
go ask the pope
i can cancel the whole thing

September 11 Remembered

9/11 Remembered

A plane hit the tower
On an early September morn
Sitting at work in my chair
My heart was completely torn

Panic on the ground
Planes in the sky
Victims looking up to heaven
Asking themselves why

Then in another state and town
A plane hits the ground
Brought down by brave men
Sadly no life could be found

In the governing town of Washington
The had an attack of their own
Loss of life from this act
At the time was unknown

In a cloud of dust and steel
The two towers came tumbling down
I could hear it on the radio
In my office no one made a sound

How could this have happen?
What kind of evil lives within?
These terrorists with no heart
Actually thoughts they could win

In what was our darkest hour
We found courage, compassion and love
We committed to work together
Guided by the good Lord up above

We doctored the weak
Buried the dead
Listen to our leaders
And believed in what they said

We brought vengeance upon our attackers
Chased then into the ground
The lowest place on earth
Where who’s left could be found

This nation stuck together
Each one working in one accord
Donating time and money
The most one could afford

We risen from the ashes
Should patriotism the terrorists feared
Yet when we look back
Our nation is in tears

It was our worst hour, yet our best hours
It showed what Americans are all about
Proud, determined and resolute
Heads high and standing stout

Today I sit in that very same chair
In my office down the hall
I’m listening to the remembrance on the radio
As a tear starts to fall
