A Picture of Dad

I wonder what was on your mind.
I can tell you were missing something that you have now,
Or you had something that you are missing now.
It breaks my heart to say that I know which it is.
It makes me wonder even more
If I will grow in a natural pattern
Or if I will have to make up for something I lose.
Unless chrome and a clover and a flame can do the trick,
It’s all up to the roll of a few dice.
How does it seem that we are both going to loose
Playing ship, captain, and crew.

I wonder what was on your mind.
Maybe you knew it wasn’t just up to luck,
But I know so much better than to accuse you
Of playing a bad card.
You got my respect, and you always have.
But you don’t get what you need.
You don’t get close to what you deserve.
