Ronsard (Pierre), French poet, b. of noble family 11 Sept. 1524. He became page to the Duke of Orleans, and afterwards to James V. of Scotland. Returning to France, he was a great favorite at the French Court and "prince of poets" (as his own generation in France called him). Died 27 Dec. 1585. and "prince of poets" (as his own generation in France called him).
