In Old California 17
El diablo was Margarita's pride that gave exciting ride across the fields and plains of Luis Ore with lengthened stride. In mind, El Diablo to reins now yields. With gentle guide, the guilding she now wields to leap the rapid flowing stream with ease, then see the cottonwood tall tree that shields her resting place of ever cooling breeze. "My uncle has kept Diablo for me. No one has been allowed to sit his saddle. Diablo will remember me." "How could anyone forget you?" "You'll turn her head, Don Huerra," Dona rose interrupted. "She's hard enough to live with." "Am I hard to live with, father? Father, you answer for me. Am I hard to live with?" Don Jose smiled affectionately at his daughter. "Margarita, you're most welcome to live with us as long as you please. If you choose to remain at Peralta, that'll be our gain. I know though, your heart's in Luis Ore and I wouldn't do anything to prevent you from leaving."
