The Letter
Dear brother, I am writing you this letter, in my room wearing your high school sweater. The news I send is not of much import just thought you’d enjoy a home report. You best friend Bill and I are going to get married, but Joe, Frank, Jerry and Hank we’ve had to bury. You all had to go, I know you had no choice the entire town waited for the date when they could rejoice. The day you left many words were left unspoken. you made me a promise, I hoped would never be broken. I was still wearing braces and in pig curls when you went off to that war torn world. As you know today is the tenth anniversary of the day our hearts were filled with misery. I was sitting in the living room when the news arrived I’ll never forget the sight as I watched as daddy cried. He fell to his knees and buried his face seeking relief from Jesus’ loving grace. Knowing now that dad and you are together Mom and I can feel a little better. I’ll seal this letter with my love and a kiss to my hero brother I sorely miss. I’ll place this letter near your headstone with tears in my eyes I’ll slowly walk home.
