It Never Came
The beautiful red wagons, windup toys and spinning tops, toy trucks, cars, tractors, and yo-yos. At the appropriate age, I usually received the appropriate Christmas gift. The trains, the tricycles, the play guns with caps, and the bee bee guns. So poor, but yet so fed; so poor, but yet so clothed; so poor, but yet so loved and sheltered. How could any richer or wealthier families have been more happier that us at Christmas! How could any kids have had more treats and sweets, more meats and fruits than us at Christmas! If there really was a Santa, we never met him, but he always came and left things for us. Somehow, he managed to disappear before we caught him in the act, but we always forgave him for not introducing and revealing himself. For several years though, on each passing Christmas, I started to hold it against him for never leaving a certain item that I always dreamed of having but never acquired as a kid. It never came for Christmas. I eventually got over it when at the age of 19 I bought my first bike with my own money. It was not that I was purchasing my own Christmas present. It was not Christmas, and I bought the new bicycle to lower my transportation expense. Oh how time changes things. 11262017 PS Contest, Childhood Christmas Memories, Bic Gi-Sa
