A Fire Burning In the Night
A fires burnings Somewhere at night I walk along The edge of the wood I feel transfixed by silence I see flames leap Lighting up tree trunks Then I hear a scream. I move closer to the forest’s edge But something forbids me entrance I hear another scream It sends shivers down my spine I go into the wood Dark tree tops collapse the sky I feel colder, parched I see light in front, walk toward it I see a figure, woman naked And three other forms Dragging her into the fire They hold her there Her flesh burning I catch a whiff and vomit I throw rocks at them Hoping for her to escape But she stumbles inside the fire There is nothing I can do I run wild, screaming Away from the fire Am I next? I wonder. I hear them calling demons To hunt me down I jump over a rock But I don’t land Bull horns in my back The Minotaur routinely Breaks my spine and throws Me to the soft earth Trampling with huge hoof He crushes my skull.
