With a haughty air they claim it’s cheap, ‘mere entertainment,’ and nothing deep. As if popcorn films stink up the joint, methinks these ‘elites’ are missing the point. Entertainment plays a vital role in countering a world that takes its toll. We have minds that spin off perfect dreams in a world that seems anathema to these. We live with urges burning inside, yet suppress them and work to stay alive. We each ‘know’ how things ‘should’ go, but it rarely does…such a heavy blow. The stress this builds, it never leaves; too much of it and your stomach bleeds. How many would resign to this fate if there were not some way to escape? Even if it’s but an hour of two, it’s a pressure-valve we all must use. Even the professors who love to lecture, will, if pushed, admit to guilty pleasures. If we watched only ‘difficult’ films the weight of life would only build. If the internet was all snowflake crap, the stress would build, until we snapped. So perhaps instead of the mockery we should recognize the necessity of those who create just to entertain, without them we’d all be half-insane. Besides what good is a message true and dear if the story around it bores to tears? I doubt the viewers will be absorbing all that much from something so boring. Better to wrap it in a hectic fury; be it bloody, manly, mad, or lurid. And if they learn nothing, you still have this: nothing really escapes the subconscious. Now enough of this whole ranting mode, let’s all go watch bad things explode…
