Needless Jealousy
You always worry that I’m not faithful to our love, Even though I’ve given you no reason to feel that way. My feelings for you are as certain as the stars above. So, as long as you want me around, I’m here to stay. It seems silly to me that you think I’m always cheating. I ask you to come along, but you say, “No, it’s alright.” It’s sad you think I would have an affair that’s fleeting, And that you feel you have to keep me within your sight. If you distrust me so much to accuse me of such things, Then why would you stay in this relationship so long? I would think you’d want a change, whatever it brings, And pack up your bags (and baggage) and move along. It may be that you can’t leave because you worry so much, From a past of such horror, that you won’t let it go. You must realize by now that you need not fear my touch, And that for us to work out, we may have to take it slow. I want you to be a part of my life, my family, my friends, But you insist on keeping yourself separate from us all. I wish you’d come out of your shell and make amends With the people you’ve hurt; a gesture ever so small. It’s been over two years and you’ve made no changes yet. I can no longer stay if you’re unable to let me in. I have to live my life as it was before we met, And you need to get over the past that lives within. One day you’ll look back upon this and understand, This had to be goodbye to a love that was never meant to be. Who knows, someday, as you walk alone not holding my hand, You’ll realize that to be a couple, there’s no place for jealousy.
