Thirteen Cracks In the Mirror
THIRTEEN CRACKS IN THE MIRROR a soul-crushing crack, a wrinkle in my nightmare wake. crushed velvet hides the splintered wood, that stabs thirteen times. tears cascade down the entryway mirror - i’m locked inside. my ethereal heartbeat pounds, trying to get out. forms bleeding black from head to foot (i despise that color) languidly see me in my parlor - i don’t get up. hands touch me, bruised lips kiss me (can’t they all go away) i wake up in sweat, drowning in my bed (i sit up) my mind’s eye hears the clock strike thirteen (impossible) my oval-faced mirror, falls to the floor, ceasing time. i look down in its pond-like ripples to view my face. an ancient biddy stares back at me, with thirteen lines. my inaudible scream, echoes - forever coffered.
