Ode To the Dreamy Girl
People turn to her and say, "Why are you like this? Like a girl of modern day, Dress up a bit, miss. Don't sit with books all day long, There's a world outside, you know, These fairy tales won't help you Live. Life's not a dreamy song. You'll see beyond the rainbow Some day - those dark gruesome hues." She would smile at them and tell, "I'm better off here, With my books in my snug shell, Life can't be severe." Once they left, she'd sit and cry, Why would they not let her be? Could she not have her own dreams? Should she answer their each why? Would they not let her shine free, Like those distant white moonbeams? They who judged her by her looks, Did they know her pain? She was hiding in her books From abusive strain; Divorced parents did not care, Grandma blamed her for their split, Beat her up, locked in a room; Was it wrong for her to dare To read and dream of what's writ? To set her mind free from gloom? 07/27/17
