Heart of Darkness In the Valley of Light
Don’t hold on, To the feeling that I will stay. Cos’ I’ll be long gone tomorrow, With the arrival of the first sun ray. I don’t desire to leave, But I must suit up and fight. Wipe off some darkness, That engulfs the white valley of light. The shelling & stone pelting carries on, These are troubled times and all must keep calm. Kashmir shows me that these divisions, These boundaries and religions bring us nothing but harm. Sometimes, I’ll show justice, Sometimes, I’ll show my wrath and kill. Sometimes, the natives will hate me, While the journalists and activists will have their fill. An icy fear grabs my heart, And beads of sweat form on my forehead. At times, even the bravest soldier feels afraid, I don’t wish that my blood stains this white snow red. Amidst cramped bunkers, I and my men hope, Amidst this hell, we yearn to make it out alive. Amidst this insurgency and militant maelstrom, We long to gaze at the face of a little child & a loving wife. But it’s time to stop my fretting and pick up arms, Got not a clue till when this darkness will last. Meanwhile, the only thing that keeps me alive is my wish to come back home, When Kashmir’s river of tears will dry up, when it’ll just be a figment of the past...
