On Waves of Broken Promises
I dared to chase that elusive butterfly of love until he landed in my heart. Caught up in wondrous fascination, I placed my trust on its fragile wings but they crumbled all around me in broken promises lying on the ground. I was betrayed by my heartless butterfly, used like a pawn in a cruel lover's game. He promised to love me for all eternity, a promise broken in each word he'd spoken. His romantic letters were works of fiction, camouflaged behind the guise of truth. In sorrow's hands I laid my aching heart. Wounded by deceit, it had tumbled into a deep abyss of sorrow and despair. Like raindrops running down a window pane, my tears flowed into a sea of solitude where I shall linger in darkness until I drown. Forsaken heart of mine, you will perish thus, staring at a sunset, alone on a barren shore. Have you lost all hope since love has flown? I will carve your epitaph in grains of sand with my trembling hand before darkness falls and waves of broken promises carry you to sea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ June 30, 2017
