Flight Cancelled
They came to stand in silent pose, Along the shore as tide arose. They watched the tide flow to and fro, And like the sea! Nowhere to go! Oh so soon, swift passing days, Yes time does steal one's youth away. It leaves them standing all alone. With no one left and on their own. Echoes from their past surround, Haunting lonely lives the've found. And in the twilight of their years, Sand is mingled with their tears. Youth trumps "old!" It slams the door! On ancient lives - forever more. Mute monuments they stand alone, Aged hearts now turned to stone. Then somehwere out beyond that shore, Winged shadows flew! A few -then more. Until their numbers hid from view, The sun light on their rendezvous. Oh youth, immersed in boundless flight, They soar and rise to full flown height, A song of praise the angels sing, That youth can glide on agile wing. They thrust and glide -they ride and soar, But fail to see them self on shore. They do not look! They do not see! To know what one day they will be. Shame be yours in youthful flight, Now blind to age's painful plight. Oblivious to those below, That mourn for places they can't go. Recall that rocket ride called youth? Life passed so fast! So sad that truth! Today it's slower -waning will, And then tomorrow, -slower still. One day when spent they'll share that shore, With other hearts that soar no more. Birth to death - is dawn to night, And youth - that dream -one day of flight.
