A Bird's Tale
There I was, just sitting on the asphalt pavement one sunny afternoon. There were vehicles coming in and out of that parking lot, and of one thing there was no doubt. I knew that I would be in 'bird heaven' if I did not move real soon. I do not remember how I ended up on a parking lot, nor do I understand why my parents might have abandoned me; but I felt they must have had no other choice. Anyway, there I was, at the mercy of God, completely helpless, homeless, and hungry. I could barely speak, but in my heart I was praying and appealing to my creator. I tell you, there was clearly something inside of me instinctively making a Divine connection; and just like that, I sensed that my rescue was imminent. Another car pulled up, and a gentleman exited and came straight to me. Starring at me with such care in his eyes, he picked me up and seemed as dumbfounded as was I. He looked all around as if wondering where my family might be. He was very puzzled and sad; but suddenly, a touch of excitement rushed through him and also infused every feather on my trembling body. It was then that he looked toward the heavens as if to say, "He's all yours Lord''. He then swung his arms upward and released me to the opened sky. This ignited a flashing moment of mixed emotions as I was crying out inside, "O no! What now?" And then, in an instant, my little wings began to flap and away I went. I never saw my human friend again, but I have thanked my Lord every day. Not a day goes by that I don't seek opportunities to reach out and rescue someone. I will never forget how that stranger came along and gave me the lift of my life in a parking lot, on that sunny afternoon. 04302017 FB PS Contest, Springtime Standard, Brian Strain
