Winter Winds Called To Me
I watched as light faded into purple skies draped in woolen cloak, rain-soaked disguise layer upon layer, dirt piled above the ground six feet deep; dug without making a sound baby's breath first taken in the dawning light time is not measured when love takes flight layer upon layer, dirt piled above the ground Winter winds called, but I would not be found faithful in their love, two mated doves fluttered until light from the moon and stars sputtered layer upon layer, dirt shoveled into the ground after sixty years she cried in low muffled sound yearned for her mate, this sad and lonely wife no longer was she willing to be alone in life layer upon layer, dirt shoveled into the ground side by side they sleep, not whispering a sound Visits bring me comfort, though I always shed tears the daughter they gave up; I've known for many years I kneel between their graves; heart begins to pound baby's breath and roses, I lay upon the frozen ground
