The Crossing
I recall the day, now passed with sorrow Of a crossing that was calm, and thankfully mellow Lounging on deck my mind drifted free As I journeyed across ‘The River Mersey’ Whilst enjoying the sway and roll of the boat I rested my eyes; my thoughts all afloat The warming sun caressed my skin Firing up pleasures, deep within As I opened my eyes with a heavy rebuke I captured a sight, I thought I’d mistook A Seagull piloted the way ahead As if towing the boat with an invisible thread With powerful ease and majestic grace The bird held its position, as if leading the race Flying so near, I could have stretched out and touched This beautiful creature I admired so much The moment was mine, captured forever Locked in my mind as a personal treasure Now just a memory I wonder where you may be Are you piloting more ships, way out at sea?
