Beneath Friendly Hills
Sat silent, beneath friendly hills, I absorb the peacefulness and relax. Observe sunbirds’ hovering skills, The green shimmer of their malachite backs. In my mind the scene I capture. Blue shadows across the mountains creep, In the distance are shades of mauve and grey, Like guardians that never sleep Magnificent they stand keep watch today And my heart and soul enrapture. The water shines like polished glass, The dam reflects the beauty of the trees, Birds skim the tips of tawny grass, The air is warm, there’s no hint of a breeze. White storks walk with stately stature. Sat silent, beneath friendly hills, Quietness is tangible. I can feel It deeply inside, my mind stills. It’s as if I’ve come here simply to kneel Before the altar of nature.
