-goldfish-
Daily Poetry #28, February 25, 2017 Word: Goldfish My fins are fully functional, so I guess now it's time to say goodbye, As the last call for a new destination rings out in the terminal. I promise you I'll call as much as I can, and that I'll hold you in my heart, So please promise me that you'll continue to smile for me. Like a goldfish in a bowl, I look at my new surroundings, As the rain falls down on the train, the tracks a-clacking still. I look at my memories and smile bittersweetly, wondering If I've made you proud yet. Like a goldfish in a bowl, I dive into my new world with eyes wide, But with nervousness in my heart, as I no longer see you. “I love you so much,” I say before I end the call on my line, But the phone lingers on my ear as I hold your words close. Like a goldfish in a bowl, I panic as I realize that I am all alone, This huge place is seemingly too small for a companion. “I'll be fine,” I tell you before I end the call on my line, But I rush so you can't hear me sobbing. Like a goldfish in a bowl, I feel trapped as I stare at the world, Which is still just as unfamiliar to me as before. “I miss you,” I tell you before I end the call on my line, And for once, I realize that I'm telling the truth. Like a goldfish out of water, I feel like my breath will stop soon, And I wonder how much my heart can take as I continue. “I want to see you,” I tell you before I end the call on my line, So I'll be on time to take my medication. Like a goldfish that is free, I swim back to what I know is familiar, And I feel like I can finally breath when I hug you tightly once again. Like a child that is returning from playing pretend, I have an adventure to tell you, Now that I've found you outside of my fishbowl.
