Whisky Dixie
Whisky Dixie was a girl from the state of Alabama Her mother was a housewife and her father was a farmer She came into the world in a field full of corn Her mother had been drinking on the day she was born And that is how Whisky Dixie got her name And that somehow she was destined for fame Her baby feet staggered the house as she laughed like a crown She was a blue eyed blond girl, who knocked everything down She had no other siblings and was often all alone But as she grew older she learned how to cope on her own She would spend time in the basement, looking at old photos And that’s is where she discovered, her father’s whisky bottles She was only ten years old the first whisky she ever tasted And she was only fourteen the first boy she ever dated She sat there beside him smiling, in her cotton pink dress He ordered a few beers and thought she would drink less He watched her drink too much and said she was insane The date ended badly and she swore never to date again She was now a teenager, full of emotions and rage She secretly drunk whisky after school, without her parents knowledge Her father died on her graduation and her mother fell into depression She drank and drank, trying to draw everybody's attention After school she got a job, working full time as a bar maid She stole as much whisky as she could, for she was poorly paid Her mother got worse and she took her to a mental asylum And then returned home to drink a whole bottle of rum The farmhouse that had once being a happy home for her Was now desolate and littered with notices of foreclosure She walked around one last time knocking everything down The next day she moved into an apartment in the town Everyone knew her name and who she was “Who is that poor drunk girl in black? Its whisky Dixie of course” The free whisky was the only reason, Whisky Dixie kept her job Without whisky, Dixie couldn’t even put a key in her door knob She fell in love once with a man who drank as much as she did But he left her and left town when he ran out of weed Her mother died and in the chapel, Whisky Dixie smoked by her corpse Alone in the chapel she drank, and puffed away all her hopes She left town that day headed for nowhere in particular She slept by day and stayed up all night like Dracula Roaming bar to bar and hitch-hiking with truckers, bikers and ex-inmates As she drank on their tabs all over the united states
