A Journey In Time-Grandparents Sunday
Take a journey back with me To a time not long ago When families met for Sunday brunch To Grandma's house we'd go We sat down at the table Sharing stories of our week We listened in contently And took our turn to speak The smell was so relaxing Each meal was cooked with love On a porch swing you would learn of life And all the lessons of Their stories spoke of better times Yet seemed so hard to us Money wasn't in demand Your neighbors you could trust The front door was always open No need to lock the door Crime was not a problem then Each person shared the chores A coffee pot always on Perked for those who came They'd enter in as strangers But leave as friends we'd made The practiced chord of a polka song Would fill the air with joy To hear it now takes me back To when I was a boy They'd fix their homes with what they had Even if it didn't match But character made it look Like it was built from scratch Stuff was always much more fun Cause they'd let us get away With things that mom and dad would not And we could play all day They worked real hard for what they had Yet on Sunday they gave praise I long to have those times come back Oh how I miss those days I hope to pass on down the line The way that I was raised And tell the stories of those times And hope they do the same I thank you Heavenly Father For the time we got to spend But chances are those days are gone They'll never come again
