The Five Senses
Start I have eyes that cannot see The beautiful world around me The kaleidoscope which life wears To display happiness and conceal tears. I have ears that cannot hear The music of life everywhere The notes of the piano, the song of the bird The cacophony that becomes awfully weird. I have a nose that cannot smell The fragrance of love in the heart dwell It blossoms like a rose for a while And soon withers away in exile I have a tongue that cannot taste The fruits of passion which go waste All that’s left within is the seed That sprouts despair and foments greed. I have fingers that cannot touch The dreams that I cherish so much They create the sensation of bliss Something is surely amiss. The five senses are a gift God has given to help us from going adrift Alas! We fail to use them as we should And treat them like deadwood. End
