I Wish I Weren'T a Lion
I WISH I WEREN’T A LION by JOHN M. ARRIBAS I wish I weren’t a lion, I can’t make any friends I’m always scaring folks, my size just offends And how about this hairdo; would you come near? To any sane creature, it causes bone chilling fear How about this voice of mine, a volume I abhor No matter how soft I speak, it comes out a roar If I approach a group, they run, no one trusts my motives Even when I visit the pride, they walk away, what gives? The females rule the roost, they use me for their pleasure If they would let me hang around I’d try to learn to purr But that doesn’t happen I constantly cause mistrust Don’t believe, I’m the king, that myth is just a bust How about my diet, no greens, my food is always meat Running after zebras n gnus is not an admiral feat There are times, after much chase, I catch myself a deer Then suddenly out of nowhere the hyenas appear Hyenas caught the scent and are here to steal my meal I did all the huffing n puffing, they show up and steal So don’t believe the story, that Simba runs the show If I had the option to travel to anywhere, I’d want to go I’d go to an English garden that’s tended and pristine Become a hedge of lavender, that’s always been my dream To have and add color, with no need to roll in the dirt No need to swat flies, no need to be constantly alert I want to be a member of flora, fauna is too much toil As a shrub in a tended garden growing in nutrient soil Producing fragrant aromas and meditative oils. In a harbored environment enjoying pampered spoils But that’s a not a realistic, here I am once anew Swatting flies, rolling in the dirt what else am I to do?
