Children laughing and running into the candy store ... Hey mister candy man, I'll have two of everything you got Except those black ones ... ugh ugh Mama says: they're nasty, they ain't no good If you let one touch yo' lips, all yo' teeth are gonna rot Yeah mister candy man, I'll also have two of everything you got Don't want those black ones either ... ugh ugh Papa says: they ain't good for nothing, no sir, they stink something awful, the whole lot But mama, she confuses me sometimes She'll turn around and say the opposite thing to me She says she loves those black berries, and the country fresh black-eyed peas Says the black banana makes the pudding real sweet Yeah, papa confuses me sometimes too He'll say the opposite of what he just told you He says he loves the ribs with the black smoke ring, and dark black coffee early in the morning Says the best is those black olives in his Irish beef stew The strangest thing to me, the young girl said, is mama don't mind, no she don't mind at all getting her hands black from rolling the tobacco Yeah, ain't that strange, the young boy said, even though grandpa died from cancer and all, Papa says God blessed us with this rich black coal
