Back Road To Nowhere
He was a traveling man, never stayed in one place too long At every bar and tavern he visited, he loved to play his favorite song He was a rambling man, just doing the best he can After a hot meal, shower and a shave, he was off hitting the road again Him and his guitar traveled many miles together in his old '72 Mustang car He knew every back road from here to there Aah, the women he met Ooh, the women he loved They were his favorite fans, always there to greet him whenever he rolled into their town They loved the excitement he brought to their mundane lives, they didn't mind passing him around Of his serious relationship, none did ever last they would start off with a blast, then fizzle out, like a rocket out of gas Still, he knew every back road from here to there Aah, the women he met Ooh, the women he loved Complications sometimes arose from angry husbands and jealous boyfriends wearing lumberjack gloves Every now and then, he might have to make a mad dash So don't be alarmed if you see him running across your backyard grass He's just leaving town real quick in his trusty old car that still runs real fast Hitting the back road to nowhere, taking every dim lit road from here to there
