Mother Duck Moira
Mother duck Moira Had her eggs in the nest She sat on the incubate Mother duck was stressed All her eggs had passed their expiry date She was told by midwife Stace Still Moira sat on her eggs She was going to nourish her hatchlings With fresh fish and bread Let's have our chicks and forget the rest We are time pressed Said daddy duck We need to fly away Daddy Duck was stressed The duck pond had no more fish The humans gave them no bread The time was a ticking bomb Or else they would be skin and bones. Mother Duck had three more days left On the incubate Then they would fly away With their new hatchlings Tracing the route of yesterdays So she sat and sat On her eggs In her eyes, she had no more tears left; Her stomach empty of fish and bread Midwife Stace had paid a visit to Moira in the morn Give your eggs up and fly the nest This sitting is futile. Said she again. Mother duck Moira Pushed Stace away And sat on her eggs. Three days passed She had three skinny hatchlings Of the hue of duck eggs. So they flew away Mother Duck, Daddy Duck and the hatchlings To a new pond full of fish and bread.
