Deepavali Festival
Start Deepavali, the festival of light Ushered in a night of pure delight Light from lamps, with inner light harness To protect us from spiritual darkness It marks the victory of Rama over the devil And celebrates the triumph of good over evil It’s the night when Laksmi, the God of wealth Roams the earth to visit homes in stealth People keep doors open to welcome her in Hoping prosperity in the year to begin Animosities forgotten and peace prevails Families celebrate and goodwill entails After worship celebration with firecrackers begin To drive away the evil spirits from within Children use sparklers adults send rockets Although they are heavy on the pockets Skylanterns float majestically in the sky Appear like stars waving us goodbye The colorful lights decorating the houses Are mostly the handiwork of the spouses It’s a sad feeling when festivities are over And all celebrations are given a closure Schools, offices reopen and it’s back to work Memories remain and recalled with a smirk. End
