For My Mom, Ecc
Dear Mom, You are the voice of reason in my head If I must make a decision that challenges my ideals You speak to me when all I see is anger and dread You are my inspiration when head spins and heart reels That your days are challenged with fibromyalgia is easy to see Yet you travel your road with determination and grace Wind and rain bring increasing struggle; clearly your life is not care free, But somehow you keep going, even when a stop sign is in your face When you learned of Diabetes, I realized you felt conflict. You face daily injections, as did your father and uncle before; Sometimes you feel that this does good times with friends restrict Determined, you just keep plugging away. Never let life become a chore. Post-polio syndrome you must also learn to defeat. When you find it a challenge just give me a call, I'll sit and talk I'll offer what little strength I can give, and pray that tomorrow will be no repeat. If I had the power, I would take your pain, shove it out the door and turn the lock. I also know the fight of battling with disease. When you offer comfort, my pain does ease. I hope that someday I can help another. To be someone's courage and tenacity. To help someone face their challenge bravely, may my troubles to some extent appease. For now I see you, a pillar of strength. Though in my life I must be content to just "be". Your loving daughter, Jolene
