Many years ago I was working for the government of Canada, in the Welfare department and they sent me up North to help; help the poor to leave their circle of poverty by learning new skills, I was teaching computer skills to adults on contract for one year. Now, at that time there was not much going on up North at night, except a lot of snow and ice and at night bars, tons of country bars; and that is where I met him- he was leaning against the bar smiling, smiling at me and he was a God in cowboy boots and faded jeans. I was smitten and head over heels for this charmer with blue eyes, and he had that type of hair that I wanted to always brush back; it was not long and we were seeing each other everyday after my work, he had a cozy cabin in the woods and we had romantic nights there. Well, in time my contract ended and I was going back to my city, we promised to keep in touch, he would visit me, I would visit too; lots of emails, text messages, letters, telephone calls but he never came, I visited him and he always took me to that secluded wood cabin. It was romantic, just me and him before a roaring fireplace snuggled, we would take walks in the woods while gentle snow fell on our kisses; then I would go back home to my reality, I loved him, but did he love me, months passed, the messages got fewer, and I stopped visiting him. In time it faded away to nothing but I will forever recall this love in the woods. _______________________________ October 14, 2016 Poetry/Narrative/Love in the Woods Copyright Protected, ID 16-839-221-0 All Rights Reserved.
