The Unknown
In the open moonlight of a frantic night I saw the glimmering reflection Of the earth fade in a turn There I knew the hour is now By the loud silence of the night where No owls hoot but watched with dampened souls. As I looked in their eyes I felt a cold shiver Down my spine with fear of the unknown. This path on which I trek, I knew many came this way But that feeling of if I may return was left ambiguous. I could see the moonlight fade by the sparkle In the river as I walked by. Now, here I was, in the pitch blackness of the night, Then emerged a wrinkled hand, urging me on Suddenly, many of them with blood spotted eyes Gasping as if in need of air or blood I should say. There, I knew I was at the very edge of my life Could this be the end I thought, but as I was in thought: One grasped my arm "come home with me" he said Then to him I replied "this is not my end". At my word I saw them withdraw in anguish And pain, for a prey had been lost. Then as I turned, here I was; In the open moonlight of that frantic night, With mysteries to tell of the unknown.
