I Was Dead, But Now I'Ve Arisen
I was so thirsty I could've cried, But, alas, the spring of my soul had long ago ran dry. I could not even muster a single tear, Not to relieve my pain, my fear. I was so hungry no food was ever enough, I was convinced if I suffered enough my soul would become tough. I desperately sought some food that slaked my hunger, The way small amounts filled me when I was younger. I was so lost I didn't know where to turn, Where do I go to gain knowledge, to learn? Why have the years been so unkind, To my pitiful mind? I was so divided I didn't know up from down, Instead of an angel's halo, I demurred to the Devil's crown. I begged the Devil to have pity, To allow me to leave his horrid city. I was so blind I refused to see, The One who truly loved me. He did things for me that I chose not to notice, Yet, all He required from me was loyalty and focus. Then one morning I had an awakening, My soul was opened and was God's for the taking. My eyes were finally opened and I stared about in reverence, As the rest of the world seemed to look through eyes of deference. Now there is happiness, now there is light, And my future is incredibly bright. Now that I have accepted the One that has always accepted me, My soul has been set free, Thank you, Lord, for saving me!
