Rain Drops
Rain Drops I stand with my feet firmly planted on the ground. The shifting wind's blow around me trying to make me sway. I look up and see a gray-hued ominous sky. The sun is setting, but is doing so unseen behind this thick veil of clouds. I close my eyes and turn my face skyward and listen to the distant thunder. The storm gets nearer and my senses tingle. I breathe in deep the smells of that which is fast approaching. The first drop finally comes and lands on my left eyelid. I feel the wetness slowly slid down my cheek and drop unseen to the ground below. The first close clap of thunder rings in my ears as the rain comes down faster. I think of that first drop, and wonder was it a tear from heaven? The power above or those who I have loved that are now gone? I feel so many drops now, and they are soaking my clothes as I slowly lay down. The ground is still cold from the long winter, but is soft and yielding under me. I fold my arms across me with my palms facing my chest. The storm is now in full force as I see the flashes of light beyond my closed eyes. I sense my body sinking into the earth as my every muscle relaxes. The sound of it all drowns out the entire universe as my mind quiets. I think that each drop tries to both comfort and dissolves me. The sensation of melting into the earth pleases me. I will become part of the ground and will rejoice as spring flowers sprout through me. The sun will warm me as all of nature awakes from its long slumber. I will cease to exist and transform into something larger than this body can contain. The starry heaven of the night will be my blanket as I rest in the darkness. I hear a sharp bark in my right ear, and I raise my hand to shield my eyes from the rain. The rain has matted my faithful companion's hair against her. I see the rain dripping from her as she looks down at me. The earth reluctantly let's go of me as I rise to go inside. I feel incredibly heavy and it is hard to stand, and I shiver as I slowly start to walk. The rain, the thunder and the lightning continue as we go inside.
