Rib of Man
God not wanting to be alone From breath to dust, life was blown From the dust, birthed a living soul Man full of life, never to grow old A garden created by God's own hands Much to offer, a promise land In the garden, many trees Each bountiful, meeting every need In the midst of the garden two trees stood Life, the other, Knowledge of evil and good God spoke, the fruit of the trees, eat you may But the Tree of Knowledge you must keep away Remember what I say to you To disobey is never good If my word you should defy Eat of the tree, and you will die Man must not dwell alone He needs a helpmate to call his own A rib taken from Adams side A woman was given to be his bride In this garden an ole serpent dwells Mischief he sews and lies he tells His mission, to separate God from men Among creation to bring forth sin To Eve the serpent began to speak Of all the trees, you may eat Eve spoke with her reply All but one or we will die Death come to you, surely not Speaking to Eve, the serpent mocked Only one bite of the tree's bountiful food Wisdom will come, knowing evil and good The fruit before her, she could not resist As she took a taste of bitterness Looking to Adam, she gave unto he Knowledge they gained through deceit In shame of what their eyes beheld Fig leaves, used to cover themselves Their innocence, stripped away When God they chose to disobey God came walking in the cool of the day Searching for Adam along the way From the garden, God called Adam's name Fearing God, they hid in shame No longer to hide, God we are here Adam's voice trembling with great fear One bite, our nakedness we see Did you and Eve eat of that tree The woman from my rib, gave me to eat What have you done, God said to Eve The serpent said that I would not die But now I see, he is full of lies Cursed, upon your belly, without any feet Serpent, for the rest of your life, dirt you will eat To Eve, I will multiply thy sorrow with pain of conception Adam, you will work by the sweat of your brow, no exception Sin was birthed in the garden that day When being tempted, Eve chose not to obey From the rib, God brought goodness and life Sin through temptation, brought trouble and strife Sin continues to rage mighty today Throughout a world who refuses to pray God's own, like Eve, turning their back Wisdom of God's word, a fallen world lacks In their pride and without explanation Tempted they indulge through sin's abominations Leaning to their own understanding, just as Eve Through the whispers of Satan they are deceived Their sinful minds perceive to hold all wisdom Condoning sin and unwilling to listen Refusing to acknowledge all their wrongs Mocking and persecuting God's very own God, soon to reveal their ignorance Leaves them begging of forgiveness Their own understanding, from God they turned Judgment, an eternity of lessons to learn The rib of man, God created for good Sin replaced where obedience stood A fallen church to do as they may Twisting scripture to live their own way If only Adam and Eve had obeyed In paradise we would live today But Adams rib bowed to temptation Opening portals of damnation Written by: Donetta Harless Wednesday, July 27, 2016
